Journalism consultant and editor
Dayton, Ohio Area
I am a journalist with a broad range of interests and experience in editing, leadership and management, workplace culture and organizational development, journalism training, ethical decision-making, citizen journalism and innovation in media. After nearly 20 years as an editor at The Oregonian, I received a Nieman Fellowship (2002) and studied ethics and online learning at Harvard University. In 2003, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation invited me to create and direct Tomorrow’s Workforce, a four-year, $2.5 million project at Northwestern University that demonstrated the link between strategic newsroom training and a news organization’s ability to adapt and innovate. Now I am a consultant seeking to help news and newsroom training organizations become more successful. I am currently developing Web projects for the Knight Foundation, the Knight Digital Media Center and the Nieman Foundation at Harvard University.
