James Pond’s Summary

I have worked in Cambodia since 2004, focusing on victim survivors of sex trafficking in Southeast Asia. Since 2005, I have functioned as the Director of Agape Restoration Center (ARC) and the Transitional Living Center (TLC) - pioneering two significant projects to meet the needs of young women in difficult situations - primarily sexual exploitation. The first project was the ARC - a high quality, long-term aftercare facility, focusing on rehabilitation and education. The second project was the TLC, an independent living facility for victim survivors (ages 16+) in need of reintegration services and vocational development.

In 2007, we moved from a direct supervisory role into a consulting role, which ended in September, due to our new project. Currently, we are operating a new non-profit organization, called Transitions Cambodia, Inc., which will focus on the transitional home concept, with a primary aim on providing comprehensive reintegration services to our clients.

The goal of these homes is two-fold. The first, is to expand this concept into four separate transitional centers, each servicing 10-15 clients, with one center focused on reception and repatriation of girls that have been globally trafficked and returning to Cambodia. This transitional center will be geared toward more short term clients in need of immediate services in conjunction with IOM and other partner organizations. Second, we have seen a turn in the needs of clients in Cambodia, which are focused more on governmental cooperation and support of existing systems. In addition, there is a need for quality 21st century vocational training and social work support.

Transitions Cambodia, Inc. aims to provide victim survivors of sexual trafficking the opportunity to heal and recapture the most basic of human rights, freedom and hope.
