Peter Devonald is an award winning writer who has worked with Blue Zoo, MTV, Vermilion, Tangent and Soup - and has recently completed a feature commission, GUY’S REQUIEM. Peter was one of the writers of the Bafta nominated THOSE SCURVY RASCALS (dir. Oli Hyatt. Entara Ltd/ Blue-Zoo), which won best Children's Series and Choice Award at the 10th British Animation Awards. WASTED (dir. Rowland Jobson. (S16). Seefood TV) is Peter’s latest short. Winner of The Haringey Short Film Award, UK Film Council, Wasted includes Robbie Ryan (DoP Brick Lane, Wasp) and Peter Devonald as co-producer.
.357 (dir. Scott Rawsthorne, Diamond Bullets/ MTV) has a cast including Matthew Marsh (Spy Game, Spooks) and Alexandra Moen (Dr Who, Hotel Babylon). British Council sponsored, .357 was selected for the L.A Short Film Festival, Filmstock Festival 2006 and was winner of best drama at the New York International Indie Film & Video Festival. When it aired on MTV on 13th September 2005 it was chosen as the Evening Standard ‘Pick Of The Night’.
TOAST (dir. Steve Hammal, Dark Skies Films) was funded by Open Lens/ City-Eye - Screen South. It has had an extensive festival run including Bradford Film (2006), Warrington (2006), Deep Fried (2006), Portobello (2006), Final Cut, Brighton (2006), Sefton Short Film (2006), ***End Of Pier Festival (second place, 2006)***, Heart of Gold Festival, Australia (2007) and The 10th Nuit du court métrage, Lausanne (2007).
:-) (dir. James Appleton, Electric Eye/ Signals Media) played at Signals International Film Festival (2007) and was the ***Winner of The Main Jury Film Prize at The Wood Green International Short Film Festival (2008)***.
THE CALLING (dir. Jason Edwards. 16mm. Vermilion Films) premiered on 7th August 2007: Zero-one, Soho. Selected for the fifth round of the New Arrivals competition. Selected for the 2008 Wood Green International Short Film Festival. Talent Circle SUPER SHORTS 2007: ***FINALIST (final 5) ***.
Throughout his career Peter has placed in awards, including semi-finalist in the BSSC (2006), 9 Top Screenplays on Coppola's Zoetrope (2005-2001), top ten on Spacey’s Triggerstreet (2003) and final shortlist (18 from 2000) in the Lloyds Bank Film Challenge (1993). He has also been short-listed three times in the Woolwich Radio Award (1996-7), 11th Warehouse Theatre Award (1996) and judge/ mentor for the Sir Peter Ustinov Television Scriptwriting Award (iEMMYS, New York, 2003-6).
