I attended Michigan State University where I worked in the library’s Reference Department while obtaining a degree in International Studies. For a year after graduation, I worked as an Associate Editor for Pierian Press. In 1990, I went back to school for my MSLS degree at Wayne State University. I began my professional career as a Research Librarian for Keck Mahin & Cate, a law firm in Chicago. I stayed with KM&C for 4 years before taking a newly created position at the Highland Park Public Library: Electronic Resources Librarian. At HPPL I coordinated the development of a community WWW Home page, taught public internet classes, and assisted with the library’s CD-ROM network.
In 1996, I joined Gardner Carton & Douglas of Chicago as Information Technology Librarian. I stayed with Gardner through a merger in January 2007 with Drinker Biddle & Reath of Philadelphia. My position entails instructing attorneys and staff on using the internet and firm intranet, and administering the library’s CD-ROM databases and other electronic resources. I acted as Gardner’s intranet webmaster until the merger, and am now on the combined firm’s team to create a new intranet portal.
I've been an active member of the Illinois Chapter of the Special Libraries Association since 1992. My first committee role was with the Vendor Relations Committee. Currently, I am the Chair of the Web Page Committee and maintain the Chapter’s website at www.slaillinois.org. In the years I have been involved with the Web Page Committee, SLA–IL has moved from a text-based website to one based on Microsoft FrontPage, to PHP-Nuke, and now Drupal. I manage and maintain much of the content on the website, with the exception of Informant articles, which are posted by the Informant Editor.
In January 2007, I attended the SLA Leadership Summit with the assistance of a stipend from the Illinois Chapter, and in September 2007, I was elected President-Elect of the Chapter for 2008, and President for 2009.
