Development Coordinator at Legacy Donor Foundation
Greater New Orleans Area
My professional experience has been with a diverse set of organizations, starting with The Idea Village, Jones Walker Law Firm, Young Leadership Council, Louisiana Technology Council, and currently the Legacy Donor Foundation.
At the Idea Village, my major contribution was developing a client portfolio--a publication designed in Word that the organization had done without until that point. And, of course, I lived through the storm in this position, working remotely until I was able to set up an office in Baton Rouge so we could operate somewhat normally.
My experience at the Young Leadership Council taught me A LOT about how to run a nonprofit organization. As past Executive Director Gerald Duhon puts it, "the biggest project the YLC ever ran, is the project of running the YLC." It's true. They are an excellent model for best practices, and I hope to serve on the YLC board in the near future. I have been working on a project proposal for the YLC Leadership Library and Professional Development center, that I hope to roll out within the next 6-8 months.
One of the last things I accomplished working for YLC was to write a grant for Project Prodigy (a longstanding summer music camp for under served urban youth), which was successfully funded. So far I have a 100% success rate writing winning grant proposals.
The Louisiana Technology Council was, to date, possibly the most enriching professional experience I've encountered. I met hundreds of amazing, talented people from across the state, who continue to serve as inspiration for grassroots technology initiatives I've taken up since leaving LTC. Starting a Net Squared New Orleans meetup group is one example.
I look forward to learning new skills with the Legacy Donor Foundation. This is the first time I've focused exclusively on development-related work, so I can't wait to see if the fund raising letters I'm in the middle of writing generate a good response from supporters.
