While transitioning from active duty service from the Marine Corps I took on the challange of running for political office. Although only able to campaign on the ground for a month since I was moving back from Virginia Beach, I managed to garner the endorsements of the two major Detroit area newspapers, the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press and earned nearly 30% of the vote. This is significant in a four way race against one opponent who is a family member of the current State Rep and had wide special interest support and two other opponents who were all able to campaign full time.
This was a valuable although expensive experience and I have learned many aspects of the political system. I do look forward to becoming very active in my community in the polical process and possibly running for a public office in the future.
