James started his career in the banking sector working in credit management with such heavyweights as American Express and Citibank. James jumped to the telecommunications sector where he continued in the credit management business for Sprint Canada. In 1996 James transitioned into the Internet industry, and was part of the team that helped Sprint Canada launch its ISP offering nationwide.
Thereafter James started a successful internet and desktop support consultancy, which later evolved into a web hosting provider. In 2000 he joined fledgling registrar and Internet pioneer, Tucows Inc., and helped them grow their wholesale registrar business into what became the second largest player within that space. At this time James became actively involved within domain name policy affairs within ICANN.
In 2001 James was named as COO & CTO of Basic Fusion Inc. of Valencia California and helped them build and deploy their hosted registry and registrar system. In 2002 Basic Fusion was sold to New.Net an IdeaLabs! subsidary of Pasadena.
In 2003 James returned to Tucows where he took over the product management registrar business both in the wholesale space as well as its hosted registrar solutions. In this role James successfully rolled out new TLD platforms as well as myriad of other domain-related product offerings.
Most Recently James was the Chief Architect for Names@Work, an internet marketing company that specializes in combining the forces of Domains, Blogs and RSS as well as traditional SEO tactics in order to help their customers connect with consumers online.
