Project 1. To use microarray technology and functional genomics to examine gene expression and possible interacting gene networks in models of muscular dystrophy. This project resulted in the identification of two novel binding partners for our protein of interest.

Project 2. To investigate the role of the muscle protein dysferlin in mediating membrane repair. This project resulted in the discovery of the role of the dysferlin protein in mediating membrane repair.

Project 3. To develop a high-throughput screening (HTS) assay to identify small molecules that modulate the membrane repair response in normal and dystrophic muscle. A preliminary patent application has been filed with the US Patent Office for this novel drug screening assay that has application to the biology of muscle injury and repair including muscular dystrophy and exercise-induced injury.
