Grunt of all trades. Fresh out of the Navy and this was my first real job in publishing. I did everything from pull tear sheets for production, strip copy, cut ruby, and fulfill the needs and wants of the advertising department. Thought about going into sales, but figured I'd stick with editorial, and since I'm not much of a gardener, I started looking elsewhere. Learned a lot about magazine production here, too. Good experience, dedicated staff, but there's little pay when you're a grunt.

Join the Navy. See the world. Do cool things. Yeah! While classified as a Yeoman, I was cross-trained in legal, and was the Ship's Legal Clerk, responsible for things like non-judicial punishments and prepping cases for Courts Martial. Because of my duties, I had a Secret/ENT-NAC security clearance, and was also a member of the ship's security force and worked pilot rescue on the flight deck. On a small ship, you have to wear many hats.
Mountain biking, hiking, skiing, reading (mostly science and technology, but some fiction as well), writing, and lately, lots of gardening.
Honor graduate, Naval Justice School (Newport, RI, 1985).
Navy Achievement Medal (1986)
Navy Good Conduct Medal (1987)
