Michael Stein is a nationally renowned technology writer and Internet strategist who has spent two decades working with nonprofits, foundations, labor unions, technology providers and social enterprises.
He is the author of three books and numerous articles about the Internet, including The eNonprofit: A Guide to ASPs, Internet Services and Online Software (with John Kenyon) published by CompassPoint Nonprofit Services in 2002. In 1997, he co-authored the groundbreaking book Fundraising on the Internet: Recruiting and Renewing Donors Online, with Nick Allen and Mal Warwick, and he contributed a chapter to the Second Edition. In 1994, Michael co-authored Aether Madness: An Offbeat Guide to the Online World, (with Gary Wolf) published by Peachpit Press, which chronicled the early cultures and counter-cultures of the online world as the Web was just emerging. The book was translated into Japanese and Italian for worldwide distribution.
Michael provides strategic support to organizations on Internet strategy, online marketing, online fundraising, online advocacy, email newsletters, Website content, blogs, and Internet vendor selection. Past clients have included: Planned Parenthood Federation of America, United Nations Food Programme, SEIU, TechSoup.org, The David and Lucille Packard Foundation, Network for Good, Groundspring.org, Carnegie Corporation of New York, California Labor Federation, GetActive Software, Donordigital, Campaign for Mental Health, and Children Now.
Michael was formerly the Associate Director of Groundspring.org, a nonprofit technology agency that provides Internet services, training and consulting to nonprofits nationwide. He has previously the Vice President of Programs for IGC.ORG, the first Internet company to serve the needs of nonprofits.
Michael serves on the Board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Golden Gate Chapter, and Idealware.org.
