I am communications director for the Tennessee Republican Party. I love this job - it gives me the opportunity to mesh three things that I love: journalism, blogging and politics.
For the Tennessee GOP I do traditional media relations work - press releases and media appearances - and also am building an extensive online communications strategy as part of the overall campaign to win a majority in both houses of the state legislature this year. Politically, I'm a libertarian conservative and a foreign policy/defense hawk - a Reaganite, essentially.
I also own Mesh Media Strategies (www.meshmediastrategies.com), and do media relations/social media consulting, research, writing and editing. Mesh Media Strategies is an integrated traditional and online media relations firm and blogging consultancy, offering a range of traditional media relations services as well as building successful blogs and blogosphere communications strategies.
Mesh Media helps business, academic, policy and religious organization raise their profile online and in the print and broadcast media, in order to positively impact the online, media and public conversation on the organization’s behalf.
Mesh Media also helps publications adapt to and embrace the blogosphere, from strategy consulting to building the publication’s blogging platform.
Before founding Mesh Media Strategies in April 2006, I spent three-plus years as a media relations specialist and blogging coach in the office of University Marketing & Communications at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, doing a variety of traditional media relations work and leading the University’s efforts to connect with the world via weblogs.
I also published - and continue to publish - one of the most influential government-focused blogs in Tennessee.
