Enterprise Data Architect


Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company (a company of Allianz) is in search of a lead level Enterprise Data Architect to join our enterprise architecture team in support of a company wide transformation initiative.  If you enjoy working from your home, with occasional trips into the office, this could be an excellent role for you.  We are looking for a very self directed leader and data and DW expert who can create, refine, execute our new data strategy.


The Enterprise Architect (EA) discipline defines a high level enterprise-wide architecture focusing on the mapping of IT capabilities to business needs. The focus is on defining the relationships, flows and implementation of business (processes/activities/functions, information), data and technology in the enterprise and the transitional process necessary for implementing technology in response to changing business needs.


The Enterprise Data Architect creates and maintains architectural best practices addressing data and technology in the context of business processes across the division. The position provides leadership direction and accountability for strategic data architecture plans and implementation. The Enterprise Data Architect determines and develops architectural approaches and capabilities to meet business information needs.



Develop an implementation plan for key aspects of enterprise data architecture based on business requirements and IT strategies

Lead the Development strategies for warehouse implementation, and data acquisition

Manages the Enterprise Data Model, including data dictionary/metadata registry.

Lead analysis of the current IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement

Participate in data architecture R&D activities

Lead selection of preferred data management technologies

Document all data architecture design and analysis work

Establishes and manage Enterprise Data Standards.

Evaluates new data sources for adherence to the organization's quality standards and ease of integration.

Demonstrates expertise in a variety of database, ETL, and application concepts, practices, and procedures.

Provides project requirements and time estimates.

Provides data consultation on complex projects and is considered to be a top level contributor/specialist.

 Leads and directs the work of others

• Develop and ensure compliance with data architecture principles and standards for the various systems and components based on design patterns

• Collaborate in the development of standards for web-based applications and middleware

• Develop and maintain data roadmaps and evolution plans

• Lead the development of future enterprise data architecture

• Lead the identification and analysis of enterprise business drivers and requirements that drive the future state architecture

Required Technical Skills

Proficiency in Logical Data modeling and Physical Data modeling

Prior experience leading high visibility data management programs

Prior experience of designing and implementing data warehouses

Prior experience working with metadata repository and data modeling tools (e.g. Erwin, Rational Data Architect)

Knowledge of the IBM Insurance Application Architecture (IAA/IIW) data models and ACORD XML

Knowledge of SOA concepts, best practices, and technologies.

Practical knowledge of TOGAF


Required business skills

Lifecycle cost analysis

Manage and direct multiple engagements developing key architecture artifacts and standards while following an architecture development process

Project management experience 


Strong Presentation skills


Strong Communication skills to both technical and non-technical audiences

Client-focused attitude

Team player attitude


Required IT Tool-Specific Competencies

Enterprisedata discovery and retrieval

Open standards

Microsoft Office

MS development environments


Data Mining





10+ years in complex projects with division or company-wide

8+ years proven application architecture integration experience 

BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent education


** Occasional light domestic travel required.
