Job description

The Web Content Writer is responsible for gathering, writing, editing, proofreading and posting content onto Drexel University College of Medicine website(s). This job involves heavy interaction with both clinical and basic science faculty, as well as the individual content managers in each department of the College of Medicine. Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and creative skills are essential, in addition to the ability to set, meet and exceed goals and deadlines. Proficiency in MS Office Suite is required. Experience with HTML, XHTML, CSS, 508 Accessibility, Web Standards and CMS-or database-driven sites. Experience with DotNetNuke and/or Sitecore preferable. Ability to solicit and incorporate critiques and feedback from multiple stakeholders. Attention to detail.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 3-5 years web writing experience, including the management of content and production for high traffic websites
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field with proven writing skills
  • Proven experience writing for the web, adhering to SEO best practices
  • Ability to understand complex topics and write about them at an accessible level
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Knowledge of public relations and technical writing and editing for online publications important
  • Knowledge of the health care field preferred
  • Working knowledge and experience with social media platforms
  • Working knowledge of principles and processes of website design


Essential functions:


Create, develop and manage content for the organization’s website(s), ensuring that all documents meet established SEO standards


Facilitate meetings with faculty and staff to elicit information and establish content owners’ primary focus and priorities


Build consensus on content projects and work effectively within cross-departmental teams

Manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment

Ensure that content conveys the desired branding of the College of Medicine

Work with the Communications Department’s Director of Marketing and Web Manager to audit current web content and commission material where it is lacking

  • Must exhibit professional judgment and be courteous and respectful of all audiences and team members
  • Must work collegially with all team members
