 NOC (Network Operation Center) Engineer


About the position

This position offers the right candidate an opportunity to participate in two of the fastest growing segments of the Internet – SaaS and the Cloud!  Get in on the ground floor at Everbridge, the market leader for Incident Management and Communications solutions.

The Tier 1 Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of network and application operations including configuration, capacity, access, performance, and security with a focus on identifying and resolving issues rapidly.  The Tier 1 NOC Engineer is expected to be part of on-call rotation and provide after hour support as needed.  Previous experience with Oracle 10g is required.  This position reports directly to the Senior Manager Network Operations Center.

Specific duties will include:

  • Provide Tier 1 network and application support for mission critical 24/7 systems.
  • Assess, categorized, assign priority, group, own and manage incidents for inception through resolution.
  • Day-to-day monitoring of network and application operations: configuration, capacity, access, performance, and security management.
  • Analyze and respond to incidents reported by Customer Success, monitoring alarms, and network and application issues to improve availability and customer experience.
  • Thorough documentation of incident and problem details in near real-time.  Build knowledgebase of problem resolution history.
  • Responsible for all break-fix tickets through resolution.
  • Resolved problems through root cause analysis.
  • Open conference bridges to triage incidents and coordinate resources to resolve incident.
  • Create and automate internal and customer reports using PLSQL and Jasper Reports.
  • Ensure SLAs are met for the systems and NOC.
  • Escalate incidents to Tier 2 NOC Engineers as needed.

Desired Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • 2 to 3 years of experience working in a 24/7 Network Operation Center
  • Experience with Oracle, PLSQL, and db normalization
  • Experience troubleshooting complex applications and databases
  • Experience with all aspects of networking including IP, TCP, VPNs, Routers and Firewalls
  • Experience with enterprise class database servers and storage
  • Experience with Linux OS / Shell Scripting
  • Experience with operating in a secure environment, e.g. PCI and SAS70
  • Experience with multiple data center environments
  • Experience with virtualization technologies
  • Ability to think out of the box and logically troubleshoot issues through resolution
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and explain technical information to all levels of team members within the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven leadership skills
  • Strong analytical skills, proven functional and technical analysis skills, professional client interaction
  • Strong follow-through and initiative to stay with issues until they are resolved, along with discipline and tenacity to meet deadlines.  Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced Agile development environment with aggressive deadlines
  • A positive can-do attitude and the drive and the ability to take yourself, the team, and the product to the corresponding next levels of quality and success on a relentless basis
  • Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities
