Job description

Carbon is seeking Business Development Manager to join the Client Experience team. This position offers the opportunity to deliver what you sell by staying involved in projects that you win. The selected candidate will be responsible for identifying and developing new client relationships and then connecting their program needs with Carbon’s capabilities. Advocate for the client perspective during ongoing projects for the internal Carbon team by representing business priorities and timelines through the project kick-off.


This role will report to the VP Client Experience and will participate in Client Experience team meetings with Project Directors, Business Development Managers, Account Managers, and the Director of First Impressions.

Responsibilities will Include:

  • Introduce Carbon to prospective clients through the business development process and bring the client perspective to ongoing project work.
  • Establish contacts, qualify, and nurture targeted leads, then win business. 
  • Manage communication with all account contacts from technical contributors to executives. Engage senior executives and operational managers to understand their business, motivation, and specific project requirements.
  • Present Carbon capabilities and case studies to prospects and to the product community.
  • Represent Carbon at local and national conferences, trade shows, etc.
  • Communicate pipeline status to the Carbon internal team with comparisons to target goals.
  • Collaborate in the development and improvement of Carbon’s proposal processes.
  • Support Project Directors to ensure transparency from initial contact to project completion.
  • Work with the technical team to accurately frame opportunities and to deliver proposals that exceed client expectations while accurately reflecting client needs.
  • Additional responsibilities per VP Client Experience.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • BA/BS in sales, marketing, or a related field; MBA desirable.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in business development or account management, ideally from within a professional services environment. 
  • 3+ years selling high value business using a consultative sales approach.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and spoken English.
  • High emotional IQ to understand and anticipate motivations and priorities.
  • Understanding of the product development process from product research, strategy, design, and engineering, through transfer to manufacturing.
  • Recognition of consumer electronics and medical device trends and leading products.
  • Ability to quickly qualify prospects as a fit with Carbon.
  • Passion for people and technology. 
  • Uphold company core values of integrity, delighting clients, and professionalism.
  • Self-starter who drives deliverables to outstanding execution with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to travel worldwide to meet current and prospective clients. (10% travel).
