About this job

Job description

Are you an analytical individual with a knack for education and outreach?  Are you passionate about advising policies that keep older Americans safe from fraud and abuse?  Do you get energized by providing folks with the resources to better inform their decision making process?  If so, read on! The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) may be the right fit for you.

About the CFPB

The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 (Dodd-Frank Act) established the consumer bureau.  The central mission of the CFPB is to make markets for consumer financial products and services work for Americans — whether they are applying for a mortgage, choosing among credit cards, or using any number of other consumer financial products.

The Consumer Education and Engagement Division is realizing our mission by creating opportunities for consumers to improve financial decision making to meet their own goals through education, policy, and innovation.  The Division has several teams: Consumer Engagement, Financial Education, Service Members, Students, Financial Empowerment, and Older Americans.  The Office of Older Americans identifies and prevents unfair, abusive and deceptive practices targeted at seniors.  The team also provides education and other assistance on financial decision-making for life events, such as retirement, for the more than 50 million Americans aged 62 and over.

The Impact You’ll Have

As a Policy Analyst, you will work within the Office of Older Americans to conduct high level financial research and analysis to support the development of policies and initiatives regarding legislative, research and outreach priorities.  Additionally, you will synthesize results for agency senior staff, other policy makers and the public.  You’ll directly impact our mission by keeping abreast of issues and trends affecting decision making of seniors to evaluate policies and implement changes through project plans – ensuring the Bureau’s strategic objectives are being met.  Further, you will work with other staff to develop and evaluate goals for financial counseling programs and addressing unfair, deceptive, abusive practices.

And – you’ll do all of this while working within one of the most ground-breaking bureaus in federal government.

Desired Skills and Experience

What We’re Looking For

No matter your background, you must possess a relentless commitment to professional and organizational excellence.  Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must, as well as the demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment.  This position requires experience conducting research on issues affecting older people and reviewing policies specifically addressing consumer financial products.  Well qualified applicants will have experience developing educational and other communication materials for mixed audiences, as well as targeted to the older population.  Experience managing project teams is a plus.
