Job description

The Regional Safety Specialist facilitates the plants efforts in safety education, enforcement, engineering, behavior and cultural focus. This position is responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and analyzing work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors. Position will be responsible for conducting inspections and audits to enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals.

 

Essential responsibilities and tasks are as follows:

  • Conduct safety training and education programs, and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
  • Provide new-employee health and safety orientations, and develop materials for these presentations.
  • Investigate accidents to identify causes and to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.

    Investigate the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, and other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance.

  • Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices, in order to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
  • Develop and maintain hygiene programs such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys, and asbestos management plans.
  • Responsible for Emergency Preparedness, Evacuation Procedures and development, implementation and compliance with work safety and ergonomic standards.
  • Provides advisory and consultative services to plant personnel to support operational ownership of safe work practices and regulatory compliance.

  • Collaborate with engineers and managers to institute control and remedial measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in health/safety management.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations and ergonomics methodology.
  • CSP or ASP preferred.
  • Past supervisory experience is a plus.
  • Ability to effectively deliver training programs across all levels of the organization.
  • Prior work experience in food industry and/or other production with similar processes desired.
  • Team leadership and coaching skills.
  • Must be able and willing to work a flexible work schedule to accommodate all/any shift depending on production and/or project needs.
  • Strong potential for continued career growth with flexibility to relocate if needed.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 60%.
  • Must be able to work in a plant environment. Work is performed in a controlled indoor environment and differs according to the area of the plant you are in. Time will be split between an office environment and the production floor.
