Job description

The School of Accounting and Finance is seeking an Associate Lecturer, Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Accounting, to teach on campus and distance education students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in at least two of the following areas: Financial Accounting, Company Accounting, Management Accounting, Accounting systems, Auditing, and Taxation. The successful applicant will also be expected to conduct research independently and/or as a member of a team or undertake professional activities that enhance the School’s reputation. The School welcomes applications from candidates who have either academic or professional practice experience.

The School of Accounting and Finance offers courses in Accounting and Finance and conducts research in Accounting, Economics, Finance and Law. The Accounting courses offered by the School are accredited with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia and CPA Australia. These courses equip graduates for employment in the accounting and finance professions as well as many other areas in government and business.

Desired Skills and Experience

Essential for appointment as Associate Lecturer - Level A

1. An honours degree or higher qualification: an extended professional degree; a postgraduate diploma in accounting; or equivalent accreditation and standing.
2. The capacity to undertake, under supervision, teaching in the areas of accounting.
3. The capacity to undertake research and produce publications at a level appropriate to an early career researcher or undertake approved professional activities.
4. The capacity to work as part of a team of academic staff.
5. A commitment to further postgraduate studies in law.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable for appointment as Associate Lecturer – Level A

1. Relevant professional experience.
2. Teaching experience in a tertiary environment.
3. Experience in flexible and blended course delivery.

Essential for appointment at Level B

1. A doctoral or Master’s qualification OR an undergraduate degree in accounting, membership of a professional body, and extensive professional experience in accounting.
2. A record of research or professional activity relevant to the discipline area.
3. A demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence.
4. An ability to teach effectively at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels in at least two of the following subject areas: financial accounting, company accounting, management accounting, accounting systems, auditing and or taxation.
5. An ability to liaise with academic colleagues and work as a member of a team.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable for appointment at Level B

1. A commitment to further postgraduate studies in accounting
2. Teaching experience in a tertiary environment
3. Experience in flexible and blended course delivery

Essential for appointment at Level C

1. A Master’s or doctoral qualification appropriate to the accounting discipline area or equivalent accreditation and standing.
2. A demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence.
3. A record of research or professional activity relevant to the discipline area.
4. An ability to deliver at least two of the following subject areas: financial accounting, company accounting, management accounting, accounting systems, auditing and taxation.
5. An ability to lead the development of, and coordinate, award programs of the Faculty.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable for appointment at Level C

1. A commitment to further postgraduate studies in accounting
2. A record of significant academic achievement of national standing through contributions to the accounting discipline in the scholarship of teaching and/or research or professional activity.
3. Teaching experience in a tertiary environment
4. Experience in flexible and blended course delivery
