Financial Planning Manager - Overview


This role provides an excellent opportunity for an individual to join Centrica Storage and take on a broad role which will involve co-ordinating and planning the Quarterly Performance Review process across the whole business, providing commercial finance support to the midstream area of our business and managing the Financial Accounting and Back Office functions. Centrica Storage is also in the process of implementing SAP and this role will play a key role in this project. The role reports to the Head of Finance and has two direct reports with a total team of four.

Financial Planning Manager - The Role


Planning and Performance

  • Responsible for leading the planning and execution of all forecasting activities across Centrica Storage. This requires close liaison and excellent communication with the Hedon based finance team (who provide finance support for the asset) and Group finance. Responsible for ensuring all group deliverables on three-year-plan are completed and delivered to timetable
  • Lead and co-ordinate the production of all materials required for the Quarterly Business Review and Quarterly Performance Review processes including producing consolidated analysis for CSL
  • Finance responsibility for the commercial teams inputs into the forecasting processes
  • Production and review of the Management Dashboard and Monthly Reporting Packs, including regularly presenting the Dashboard to the Senior Leadership Team
  • Manage the monthly cost performance reporting and tracking processes, including providing the Group cost reporting requirements
  • Review of all cash flow forecasting outputs

Business Finance Support

  • Responsible for providing financial support to the commercial team whose functions include a gas trading desk, business development, sales & marketing desk, and 24/7 commercial operations desk.
  • Working with the Middle Office and Commercial Teams to embed the reporting around new Optimisation and Trading Policies.
  • Review new policies and / or products developed by the commercial team, challenging assumptions and understanding the business implications.

Financial Accounting

  • Manage the team who are responsible for the financial accounting and reporting activity across the Staines based teams of the business, as well as liaising closely with the Hedon based Finance Team.
  • Drive efficiencies through the month end and back office processes where applicable.
  • Planning, co-ordination and execution of deliverables for external reporting periods to ensure Group requirements are met and a smooth audit close. This includes review of all submissions to Group, managing the relationship with PWC and providing any required inputs to the Judgement Paper to the Technical Accountant.
  • Support the Financial Accountant in the production of the Statutory Accounts to ensure that the Group timetable is adhered to.

Financial Control

  • Ensure effective financial controls are in place and operating. Working closely with the Business Risk & Controls Manager, ensure that the financial control frameworks are up to date and appropriate

Desired Skills and Experience

 Financial Planning Manager - The Person


Reporting to the Head of Finance, the post holder will need to capable of leading the financial planning activity across the business, identifying strategic issues and opportunities and ways to progress them, and proposing actions and interventions to address the issues to senior management.

 

The post holder will need to consistently exhibit the Centrica Leadership Behaviours and will need to be particularly strong at building One Team, Seizing Responsibility and Creating a Positive & Safe Environment.
The post holder will be required to have excellent communication skills especially when in discussion with managers and staff from non-financial disciplines.

 

The post holder will be a qualified accountant with financial accounting experience and strong commercial acumen. The post holder will have experience of financial planning and managing a budgeting process and in reporting both internally and to group through different forums including the preparation of presentations.
Strong power point and excel skills are required. Experience of midstream/trading environment is desirable.

This is an exciting time to join Centrica Storage as we are currently developing new gas receiving and processing terminal facilities to receive gas from the York field development and we continue to look to move forward on the development of additional storage assets. Storage made around £80m in Operating profit in 2011 with revenue of approximately £200m and invests £40-45m p.a. in sustaining existing assets

 

The role is based almost entirely in Centrica Storage's Staines office with in-frequent travel to Centrica Storage's other locations, including Hedon. There will be regular travel to Centrica’s offices at Windsor.
