Job description

The Greater Sierra Production Team as part of the NorthWest Business Unit (BU) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Production Engineer for the Sierra (Jean Marie) property. The Sierra Jean Marie property is comprised of 900 producing wells; 8 compressor stations/gas plants; and production of 140 MMscfd of gas. With a near-term focus on maximizing base production and managing operating costs, the Production Engineer will have a strong background in production optimization of horizontal wells and facility optimization, while also having the ability to support a future ramp-up in development activity. In addition to experience in Production Engineering, the successful candidate will also have experience or significant exposure to operations and completions. Critical to the role is being able to establish a close working relationship with operations and as such, regular field visits are required.

 

Responsibilities:

  • advise on production outlook and budget, and provide clarity on deviations between actual and budgeted/outlook values
  • monitor production and variance in production at the field and individual well level on a daily basis
  • identify problem wells for optimization opportunities, and compile/high-grade optimization programs on an annual basis; or more frequently as funds are available
  • work with completions to prioritize, plan, and execute well optimization programs and complete look-backs to analyze the efficiency and effectiveness of the program
  • work with operations on strategies for bringing loaded/problem wells back on production
  • conducting field-wide analysis and recommendations on shrinkage, plant utilization/optimization, gathering system optimization, and well life-cycle planning
  • identify, analyze, and advise on opportunities to reduce operating costs
  • ensure compliance with OGC and Encana safety and operational guidelines
  • mentor new or less experienced production engineers in the group
  • participate in peer reviews with other Production Engineers in the NWBU
  • provide Production engineering expertise to Reservoir Engineering during reserves reviews
  • work with development, operations, and facilities engineering on future well tie-ins and development plans

Desired Skills and Experience

  • professional Engineer with 5 years of industry experience, at least two of which is in production engineering
  • self-starter with the experience to identify new projects and move them forward in a timely manor
  • strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines
  • demonstrated history of innovative problem solving for technical and operational issues
  • confident in making sound engineering decisions that impact capital expenditures, operating costs, and production
  • understanding of gas gathering systems, compressor stations, and gas plants
  • experience with applying technologies to mitigate liquid loading in horizontal wells
  • ability to travel to the field as required (typically at least quarterly) to establish relationships with operations personnel, and for project implementation and general support of operations
  • familiar with a variety of Oil and Gas field operations. Facility, Operations, and Completions experience are a definite asset
  • experience with well production forecasting, IPR modeling, compressor modeling and pipeline modeling are an asset
  • must be legally entitled to work in Canada
