Today's pharmacy and healthcare delivery systems are rapidly changing. Healthcare is becoming more consumer-centric as the U.S. healthcare system strains to manage growing costs and employers shift more responsibility for managing costs to employees. An aging population, increasing incidence of chronic disease and increasing utilization of the Medicare drug benefit is fueling demand for prescriptions and pharmacy services. Cost-effective generic drugs are becoming more widely available and new drug therapies to treat unmet healthcare needs and reduce hospital stays are being introduced. In addition, the industry is undergoing consolidation and Health Care Reform may change the way many employers offer benefits on behalf of their employees.

The Director of Employer Segment Strategy is part of the Marketing Strategy & Analysis team. This position directly leads a small team to provide leadership and accountability for the Employer customer segment strategy. S/he will advance the company’s capabilities, bringing a higher level of strategic marketing and analytic discipline to understanding the customer, translating insights into actionable marketing and sales programs that deliver strong business results. A business leader, this person will be expected to gain the respect and credibility for strategic marketing across the organization.

This role will provide leadership during interactions with sales, strategic clients and industry leaders. The role requires a deep understanding of health care market dynamics and policies in the U.S., insights into payer/plan sponsor motivations and drivers, competitive and industry trends for PBM management and cost containment strategies, and plan population sensitivities and consumer strategies.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Drive revenue growth by developing and implementing customer-centric marketing strategies, plans and programs that reflect a deep understanding of external trends and internal business requirements.
• Utilize strategic marketing techniques to better segment the market and work cross-functionally to establish and execute integrated client value propositions.
• Identify, assess and lead new marketing initiatives to advance the company’s position in the marketplace. Build business case to evaluate alternatives and support recommendations.
• Provide customer and competitive insight to the business, inculcating a deep understanding of the customer to inform communications, product/service positioning, and marketing and sales programs.
• Leverage the existing equity in the brand, while clarifying the message and brand promise. Build and execute communication strategies to elevate brand awareness, image and relevance.
• Develop marketing talent and contribute to creating a high performance marketing organization. Identify and share best-practices to continuously enhance team’s impact.

Essential Job Functions:

-Segment strategist is a central figure in shaping segment business strategy and go to market strategy, working closely with segment sales leader(s). The strategist will see the field leadership as a customer and will establish a two way communication of obtaining key customer insights, market challenges, risks and intelligence that are addressed in the segment business plan. The strategist will also keep the field leadership informed of all internal strategic initiatives through progress/status reports.

- The segment strategist, in effect, serves as a consultant to both the field sales organization and internal business owners - leading cross functional team of sales, sales ops, product owners and PBM marketing to ensure competitive marketplace position and staying ahead of the changing healthcare market. He/she is an expert in the specific market segment and represents the segment needs back to the product areas to help ensure product roadmaps will meet customer needs.

-Partner with the PBM marketing team in the development of marketing plan, brand management, and product positioning for Employer segment customers. Take ownership of plan execution, appropriately delegating work to internal partners, ensuring Sales delivery of messaging and client understanding of strategy. The strategist ensures that the field sales organization gets the segment-specific messaging and other support it needs to win/retain business.

-Interfaces with clients and industry leaders to maintain thought leadership in health care strategies by establishing client insights plan, identifying key industry speaking opportunities and supporting strategic client events.

-Leadership responsibilities including marketing budget planning, marketing team direction and prioritization, coaching and mentoring marketing team members. Serving as SME for Employer segment clients.

INTERFACES WITH:

Internally the Director, Employer Segment Strategy will interface with the most senior executives in company, including SVP and Executive Vice Presidents across all functional areas, including head of sales/ account services for Employer Segment, Chief Marketing Officer, head of PBM Marketing, VP of Sales Operations, VP Analytics & Outcomes, VP of New Business Sales, VP of Product Innovation, Director of Public Relations, and VP of Market Strategy and Analysis.

Undergraduate degree in business; MBA preferred.

10-15 years in healthcare, benefit consulting, management consulting or strategic planning & marketing. Knowledge of PBM functions, business practices and/or total healthcare marketplace.

The ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:
• 10-15 years in healthcare, benefit or management consulting or strategic planning & marketing.
• Degree in business is required; MBA preferred.
• Knowledge of PBM functions, business practices and/or total healthcare marketplace along with the ability to dissect a problem into an organized approach and quickly form a hypothesis against which to run test analysis.
• Ability to shape market research priorities around Employer plans and to run and manage highly complicated quantitative analysis in a defect-free manner. Mastery of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is critical to this role.
• Excellent communication skills and highly skilled in facilitation and ability to obtain consensus from business leaders and influence strategic direction.
• Highly developed relationship-building skills to foster effective working relations across the Marketing Strategy team and strategic corporate clients.
• Demonstrated success in implementing large-scale projects.
• Experience in managing professional level employees in both direct and matrixed managed environments.
• Self-motivated, entrepreneurial, high-energy individual who can easily function in a high demand, performance-driven environment and is accustomed to working on multiple tasks in parallel.
• Strong leadership skills, best demonstrated by the individual’s ability to gain credibility with team members and senior management.
