Job description

The OR Nurse Manager manages patient care staff for a nursing function and is accountable for quality of patient care and patient satisfaction. Accountable for compliance with regulatory and internal UCSD requirements, and process improvement. Assists in developing budget, and manages staffing to ensure that department stays within budget. Serves as clinical and administrative resource. May provide direct patient care. Responsible for JCAHO accreditation for their area. Supervises staff, screens candidates, interviews, and hires new employees. Responsible for orientation of new staff, and trains, assigns work and coaches employees. Ensures staff competence, compliance with staff licensure/certification requirements, and maintenance of related documentation. Conducts performance appraisals, counsels staff, and takes disciplinary actions in consultation with Human Resources/Labor Relations. Ensures adherence to discipline-related action plans. Makes salary and classification recommendations. May represent the organization during a grievance hearing, administrative review process, and/or arbitration.

Desired Skills and Experience

Special conditions of employment/Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must have experience leading a professional clinical staff and building partnerships across disciplines. BSN required with a Master's Degree in Nursing, Business or Healthcare related field preferred. 3-5 years of management/leadership experience required reflecting increasing responsibility for nursing practice in OR care within highly complex organizations.

Current CA Registered Nurse Licensure required; BCLS or BART certification.
CNOR preferred.  Knowledge of HR, staffing modules, Block scheduling.  At least 3 years of OR experience.  Good people skills, communication skills, able to think outside of the box, make quick decisions, good follow up and follow through.  Able to collaborate with multiple departments. 

MSN preferred.
