Job description

Investment graduates will typically undertake a Graduate Trainee Analyst role within our Equities, Fixed Income or Multi Asset Department.  You will have a real job from day one, which is combined with a fully comprehensive training programme. 

 

Together with your graduate peers, you will join a technical training programme which introduces you to all aspects of the Investment Management business in preparation to do the Investment Management Certificate Exam and CFA level I qualification in your first 4 months of employment. 

 

Successful applicants will be offered a place as either an Analyst or Product Specialist, with the practical and theoretical experience preparing you for your role within Investment in one of the following areas:

 

Equities 

 

Schroders manages £79.0bn in multi-asset assets. As a Graduate Trainee within Equities you will be required to assist Fund Managers with researching companies within a variety of sectors and countries creating proprietary financial models and research notes.  

 

Prior to recommending a stock, you will be expected to generate independent forecasts on the key drivers of the business and present your research to the team. Your analysis and recommendations will be subject to rigorous scrutiny by senior investment professionals therefore you will enjoy early responsibility and will be rewarded by knowing you have played a key part of the investment decision making process.

 

 

Fixed Income

 

Schroders manages around £34.8bn in fixed income assets, combining institutional, private client and retail funds, covering all sectors of the fixed income arena including government bonds, investment grade corporates, high yield, mortgages, emerging markets and money markets.

As research-driven bond investors, we believe that bond markets are global, interrelated and generally efficient, but that they can overreact to events. We gain a performance advantage in three ways: by using our large team of specialist analysts and portfolio managers to research ideas in their local markets; by utilising new instruments such as credit default swaps to implement trades, and by developing in-house systems to support portfolio management and risk control. The Fixed Income teams are supported by over 70 research analysts worldwide.

 

As a Graduate Trainee within Fixed Income you will be required to assist Fund Managers with research into particular investment strategies, providing analysis of the drivers of future returns and an understanding of the risks associated with them.

 

 

Multi Asset Investment Desk

 

Schroders manages £34.8bn in multi-asset assets. The Multi Asset Investment Desk manages a range of portfolios which invest across asset classes and investment strategies. The composition of these portfolios is actively managed. The active asset allocation decisions are based on the desks macro economic views combined with an in depth understanding of how the asset classes and strategies will behave in different macro economic environments. 

 

As a Graduate Trainee within Multi Asset you will be required to assist Fund Managers with research into particular asset classes or investment strategies, providing analysis of the drivers of future returns and an understanding of the risks associated with them.

 

Prior to putting forward an investment idea, you will be expected to have completed a thorough analysis of the macro economic drivers, modelled the performance of your proposal in different scenarios and be able to provide insight into how your proposal compliments the other holdings within our portfolios.  This is a challenging but highly rewarding role in which your input to the investment process will be significant and valued.
