Job description

The Desktop Support Technician is responsible for coordinating and providing desktop, printer, telecom and basic server support.  The Desktop Support Technician will support our clients in user support and customer service on company supported computer applications and platforms. This role is the bridge between internal employees and the rest of the IT department.  It is important that the Desktop Support Technician will effectively and efficiently take charge and provide solutions ensuring users can continue to be productive within the company. Additional responsibilities may include process improvement projects, in collaboration with the IT team.  This role will report to the Chief Information Officer.


  • Provide expert desk-side and remote technical support to users with technical problems and information technology issues involving applications and hardware (desktop/laptop, network, productivity applications, business applications and telephony services)
  • Perform desktop support duties including troubleshooting hardware and software issues
  • Monitor help desk queues, supporting incident requests accurately and in a timely manner
  • Perform basic network troubleshooting
  • Image and deploy new end user hardware
  • Perform basic server maintenance tasks, such as system backups, performance monitoring and basic troubleshooting
  • Provide on-call emergency support
  • Support mobile devices and connectivity to corporate services
  • Other tasks and special projects as required and assigned by manager

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in an IT or related field, with minimum 3 years helpdesk administration experience
  • Experience in hardware provisioning, installation, configuration, maintenance, support, and troubleshooting
  • MCDST/MCTS/ MCITP certification or ability to demonstrate equivalent technical knowledge and skill sets
  • Working knowledge of operating systems to include Windows XP/Vista/Win7, Mac OS X
  • Proficient with standard office productivity applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Basic understanding of networking, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, wireless networks, VPN
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software problems, providing quick and effective solutions to resolve issues
  • VoIP phone system support experience, Fonality or Asterisk experience a plus
  • Experience with monitoring tools, Nagios a plus
  • Able to prioritize and perform a variety of concurrent tasks with minimal direction or supervision
  • Effectively collaborates with peers, cross-functional teams, team leaders
  • Exceptional customer service skills with excellent verbal and written communications skills
