Job description

TheChief Information Officer (CIO) reports directly to the Chief Financial Officerand leads the Information Resources (IR) Department, an organization of 45+Information Resource professionals.  The CIOis responsible for evolving the IR Department’s vision and strategies to meetchanging business needs.  The role isalso accountable for directing and supervising the efficient operation of the operationsof systems architecture, infrastructure, applications, business processanalysis, technical support, and data services. The CIO is responsible for ensuring that the IR Department providesrobust Information Resource services, vision, planning, and efficient operationof current technologies and implementation of new technologies in support ofCROPP’s overall strategies.  The CIO willbe required to participate in Executive strategy meetings to represent andeducate the executive team on how Information Resources can help enable theoverall cooperatives mission and goals.  TheCIO will interface withcross-functional peers, managers and Executive Management Team members todevelop strong working relationships and understand the Information needs ofthe business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop the ITstrategy and roadmaps supportive of CROPP’s strategy and priorities, and vetthem with management and stakeholders.
  • Ensure the IT operations,CROPP communication systems and computing infrastructure is reliable andefficient.
  • Oversee applicationacquisition, development and support to enable CROPP’s growth.
  • Proactivelyevolve the information security capabilities needed to protect CROPP staff andintellectual property.
  • Develop business case justifications and cost/benefitanalyses for IT spending and initiatives.
  • Improve theintegration of functional capabilities within Information Resources to improveexecution and cost effectiveness of projects and services.
  • Serve as advocatefor the customers and external clients to find solutions for the business needsthey are encountering.
  • Apply experiencein financial management to manage operational and capital budgets,reduce/optimize cost through organizational and continuous improvementtechniques.
  • Provideleadership to the Information Resource organization’s strategic planning,organizational management and financial management.
  • Establish andmaintain effective working relationships with all business unit stakeholders,including Operations, Finance/Accounting, Enterprise Project and Portfolio,Sales, Marketing, Mission & Messaging, Pools, Cooperative Affairs, andEmployee Support.
  • Responsible forthe development, implementation and maintenance of effective policies andpractices for all information technologies; ensuring access, security andusage.
  • Provide thecoordination, operation and senior-level management and leadership ofInformation Resource in support of CROPP’s mission.
  • Accountable forthe development and maintenance of a disaster recovery plan for all majorinformation technology systems.
  • Communicatesperformance expectations by evaluating performance, providing timely feedback,training and coaching, and recommending personnel actions for assigned staff.
  • Ensurescompliance with policies, safety procedures, and fair employment practices.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate inExecutive IR Team.
  • Establish andmaintain relevant performance measurements (KPIs).
  • Other duties as assignedby CEO, CFO and Board of Directors.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology,Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Business or related degree required.  Related Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 15 years ofInformation Services and Technology experience required.
  • 10 years ofincreasing managerial responsibility required.
  • Managementexperience of applications development, technology infrastructure and supportexperience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated abilityto work with staff and customers in a collegial but intellectually challengingenvironment.
  • A strong businessaptitude.
  • Comfortable inrepresenting CROPP externally with clients, association organizations,potential partners and vendors.
  • Excellent oral andwritten communication.
  • Ability to handleconfidentiality in a professional and appropriate manner.
  • Able to transitionfrom envisioning the big picture to operationalize the plans, and ensuringsuccess by detailed follow-through.
  • Ability tomanage, adapt and promote change is required.
  • Financial and budgeting experience is required.
  • Experience in strategicplanning and execution.
  • Thorough knowledgeof current principles and practices for the management of informationtechnologies, systems analysis, design and operation.
  • Ability to present ideas inbusiness-friendly and user-friendly language.
  • Demonstrableknowledge of current voice, video and data networking and the technologiesassociated with these venues of communication.
  • Ability to develop,implement and evaluate Information Technology projects and programs.
  • Experiencesoliciting organizational feedback regarding IT service delivery effectivenessand incorporating feedback for improvement.
  • A record of successful Information Service and Technology solutiondelivery, meeting needs within schedule and within budget.
