Job Description:

The Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) division of Raytheon is seeking Engineering Fellows with technical leadership and industry recognition in the software engineering discipline, specifically with significant experience in radar applications.  A Raytheon Engineering Fellow is the first of two steps on the professional technical career ladder within the company and reflects a track record of:


  • · Demonstrated application of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness
  • · Development of highly advanced technologies and/or solutions for mission requirements
  • · Technical leadership as well as expertise within his technical field
  • · Demonstrated ability to drive business results


Responsibilities include providing technical oversight to a broad range of radar programs and introducing new software technologies and innovation and creativity in problem solving to those programs. On programs Fellows ensure that the overall system architecture makes full advantage of the software, that the allocated and derived requirements are complete, consistent, and usable, that the process for selecting, and the resulting,  software architecture are of high quality, and the development, integration, and verification strategies are efficient and effective. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate as an independent reviewer for various radar programs. This individual will provide technical leadership, guidance, and support to the customer/community working groups, contractors, and Raytheon personnel to ensure program objectives and requirements are successfully addressed. Fellows participate frequently as reviewers or contributors to proposals for new business.


Required Skills:

  • · The successful candidate will be an accomplished software engineer with at least 12 years of hands-on experience and demonstrated success in the design and development of software architectures for real-time embedded, multi-processor applications. 
  • · Experience with airborne ISR radar systems and the associated signal processing is required.
  • · Software engineering knowledge must be broad (at least to the level of the SWEBOK), deep and current.
  • · Experience with design and architecture of radar RF, signal processing, or digital processing requirements.
  • · Systems/Software integration experience
  • · Must have an active DoD Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain additional clearances.


Desired Skills:

  • Subject matter expertise with large software systems supporting advanced signal processing, , image processing, exploitation, analysis, data fusion algorithms, target recognition/classification, and overall imaging systems concept design is desired. 
  • Experience developing software in a process-focused CMMI level 5 environment and applying principles such as Object Oriented analysis and design, analysis and design patterns, Model-Driven Architecture/Development, Agile development, Continuous Integration, and the latest industry processes and tools is desired.
  • Knowledge of the latest digital processing hardware (including FPGAs and GPUs) and parallel/multi-core processing technology is also desirable. 
  • Experience with SOA (Service Oriented Architecture)

Required Education (including major):  Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Science and/or Engineering.
