Job description

The Manager, Credit Risk Analytics develops and evaluates systems associated with PenFed’s credit risk function, manages the quantification of the organization’s credit risk exposure, monitors credit risk levels and evaluates the performance of established risk controls and provides statistical input for the development and implementation of policies, plans, and programs related to credit risk.   In addition, the manager provides statistical input for the development and implementation of policies, plans, and programs related to the identification of fraud patterns and the reduction of fraud loss, and monitors fraud activity and evaluates the performance of established risk controls.                                                                               


Essential Duties


  • Continuously monitors the performance of Pentagon Federal Credit Union’s credit scoring model. 
  • Recommends and implements changes to improve performance of credit function.
  • Interacts with and advises Senior Management regarding credit risk issues; formulates product strategy recommendations for Senior Management. Manages and evaluates the risk in the overall loan portfolio. Develops criteria for underwriting each loan product in the loan portfolios. 
  • Develops and leads the implementation of fraud analytics and models to support banking applications and transactional fraud reduction activities.
  • Develops quantitative fraud prevention techniques (data collection, data mining, synthesis and analysis, modeling, etc.), taking ownership for the model development. Supports operational fraud units in the deployment and use of fraud analytics and models.
  • Regularly delivers oral briefings to Senior Management, the Asset Liability Management Committee, and the Financial Management Committee.
  • Designs and maintains departmental databases, and contributes to corporate database design.
  • Independently develops, designs and programs complex financial models for special studies and regular departmental functions.
  • Leads the credit policy and risk departmental projects as requested by Senior Management and the Board of Directors.
  • Prepares formal written analyses for the management of the department, Senior Management, the Financial Management Committee, and the Board of Directors.
  • Interacts with credit risk management vendors on a regular basis.
  • Keeps informed of new ideas and developments through publications, membership in professional organizations and contact with other financial institutions.     
  • Remains abreast of regulatory developments in credit risk management and best practices within the industry.                                                                        
  • Remains abreast of advancements in academic research related to credit risk management.                                                                                                                                                          
  • Works closely with Financial Accounting department and operational units to ensure achievement of sound credit risk management practices.




Desired Skills and Experience

  • Advance degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent or a combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfactorily perform the essential job functions.                                                                                                      
  • Five years of progressively responsible work experience in statistical analysis and credit policy and risk modeling required.
  • Profiency with statistical analysis required.
  • Experience with automated financial systems required.
  • Strong programming skills to include knowledge of statistical programs (e.g. SAS, SPSS, Structured Query Language (SQL), advance database programs)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and implement rapid changes in project direction.
  • Proven project management skills.
  • Supervisory experience or equivalent desired.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
