Job description

The System Product Engineer is responsible for Lilliputian’s MPS (Mobile Power Source) System and system components. The scope of skills necessarily involves mechanical, thermal, system performance and integration disciplines. This product engineer will be responsible for both NPI activities associated with roll-out of fuel cell based products, supply chain development and sustaining product support throughout the lifecycle of the product. This individual will work closely with design, manufacturing, supply chain, quality engineers as well as suppliers and manufacturing partners in performing daily duties. The candidate is expected to support existing management systems as well as participate in implementation and optimization of new systems as the company and product offerings grow.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Product Development:

  • Lead efforts in reducing procured piece parts and assemblies.
  • Work with Sales and Marketing and Eng Design on product variants and accessories.
  • Validate product specifications through in-process test plans.
  • Generate and release of all production level product documentation including
  • BoMs
  • Assembly and piece part drawings
  • Incoming inspection cards
  • Text descriptions of operating principles, design approach
  • Manuals
  • Work instructions and product definitions to be used in Production
  • Component Specification Documents
  • Packaging and labeling requirements
  • Support engineering to secure certifications as required by marketing.

Process Development:

  • Evaluate, validate and implement new assembly processes and technologies used in the manufacturing of the MPS and subsystems.  Where appropriate, seek and qualify external sources.
  • Assist in prototype efforts related to PCBA, subcomponent assembly and system assembly
  • Manage operation NPI activities in the transfer of the system to manufacturing partners
  • Develop and implement methods of improving assembly and test yield, quality and reducing cycle time by applying production problem-solving skills.
  • Establish and monitor critical process parameters with the use of SPC and statistical techniques.
  • Implement ideas for improvement of existing products.  Resolve complex technical problems. 

Manufacturing Operations:

  • Make recommendations for changes in quality procedures, process parameters, project scheduling, procurement specifications, design rules and equipment configuration.
  • Provide feedback concerning procured piece parts to ensure clarity of the requirements and rapid problem resolution.
  • Coordinate FMA in response to RMA’s and prepare formal FMA responses to customers.
  • Generation and coordination of waivers and ECOs in response to internal engineering requirements and customer requests/feedback.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing techniques to streamline assembly processes, material flow, and production operations.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • BS in engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in product engineering and new product introduction
  • Experience with a variety of configuration, PDM, production control and material management systems
  • Skill in the use of FMEA, PFMEA and statistical control methods
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical design and CAD programs
  • Demonstrated experience with product and operation performance metric tracking
  • Familiarity with product safety and conformance certifications
  • Manage the setup and transfer of outsourced assembly processes
  • Collaboratively monitor outsourced manufacturing partner processes, yields and costs
  • Travel estimated at 30% to Asia and Europe
