As a QA Engineer you will work as part of a team responsible for delivering high quality NetApp software products. Through the application of systematic test tools and processes you will help deliver reliable, innovative storage and data management products. You will be part of a team that develops, modifies, and executes software test plans; analyzes and writes test standards and procedures; maintains documentation of results; and works closely with development engineers in resolution of problems.

This position requires an individual who is creative, a quick learner, driven to produce results and demonstrates the ability to lead small teams or projects.

This position could be located in Sunnyvale or RTP.

Essential Functions:
• As part of a team, the individual will be responsible for:
o Understanding test requirements and formulation of test cases
o Setting up lab and configuring test beds
o Developing, implementing and executing test plans
o Contributing to, creating and developing test automation strategies
o Investigating found problems and drive their resolution
o Writing test reports
o Test Optimization
• Provide team and project leadership
• Read and understand software and/or hardware design specifications as well as product requirements
• Participate in design reviews and make recommendations for product quality and testability
• Participate in technical discussions within the team and with other groups within Business Units associated with specified projects
• Willing to work on additional tasks and responsibilities that will contribute towards team, department and company goals
• Provide guidance and mentoring to more junior engineers

Desired Skills and Experience

Required:
- Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
- Good knowledge and hands on experience with Fibre Channel Protocol & switches
- Experience reading Fibre Channel traces
- Experience using various appliance and debugging tools needed for protocol error injection testing and analysis
- Experience configuring hosts for storage access via FC, FCoE and iSCSI protocols
- Experience in administering ESX, Linux, AIX (IBM), SUN Solaris, HP-UX and Windows OS Systems for accessing SAN Storage
- Experience operating Fibre Channel Analyzers and Frame Manipulators
- Experience planning, creating and executing interoperability test cases
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment of other engineers to meet aggressive goals and high quality standards.
- Experience in software test planning, test scripts and documentation.
- Strong aptitude for learning new technologies.
- Familiarity with basic concepts of computer architecture, data structures and standard programming practices.
- Ability to follow standard engineering principles and practices.
- Creative approach to complex problem solving.

Desired:
- Good knowledge of Brocade and Cisco Fibre Channel Protocol & switches
- Experience debugging interoperability issues between FC, FCoE and iSCSI components, including switches, HBAs, SFPs and DWDM equipment
- Experience automating interoperability test cases
- Experience in administration of NetApp and/or third party storage arrays
- Ability to work with internal and external partners including the ability to share and protect information under NDA

 

Education and Experience:
- A minimum of 4 years of experience is required. 5 to 7 years of experience is preferred.
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, a Master Degree, or a PhD; or equivalent experience is required.
- Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, moderately complex technical tasks.
