Job Description

Deliver operational support and stability with proactive management for Data Center Operations. Manage and direct the activities of high profile data center projects to deliver the expected outcomes within schedule and budget objectives. Deliver all services consistent with internal support services objectives and customer Service Level Agreements. This position manages staff that supports equipment installation, infrastructure cabling, racking & stacking activities. In addition, this role works directly with mechanical, electrical, and cabling contractors to schedule moves, additions and changes as well as coordinating preventative maintenance schedules and trouble shooting of environmental equipment issues. The Operations Manager will help to establish and then be responsible for adherence to policies and procedures, support coordination, capacity management, equipment installations, asset management, training, audits, and all other functions relating to the management and administration of the Data Center. Work closely with business leaders throughout the company that have direct support for computing services served out of the data center facility. Effective human resource management and interpersonal skills; ability to attract, motivate, and develop the right people. Ability to correct substandard performance; skill to confront and resolve conflicts immediately with minimal disruptions to the workflow.

  • Ability to communicate opinions and thoughts, clearly and concisely to senior management, peers, staff personnel and customer will be required
  • Maintain a detailed focus on service delivery and tactical initiatives to meet business objectives
  • Assist in developing and documenting operational requirements, policies and procedures for all APS facility functions
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective action for all incidents
  • Develop system uptime and health objectives and ensure they are met through proactive efforts as well as effective incident and problem management
  • Develop datacenter compliance objectives and ensure they are met and auditable
  • Grow and develop a newly established Datacenter Operations team with a focus on results, agility, and technical excellence
  • Regularly report on datacenter capacity, assets, service outages, operational health, and budget
  • Lead system maintenances and ensure they are well coordinated and executed
  • Establish and manage a flexible configuration management program
  • Ensure datacenter projects are well executed and deliver the intended value
  • Engage with business stakeholders and other technology teams to ensure datacenter operations are aligned with business objectives
  • Interfaces with CIO and senior level managers across many business units related to Data Center Operations
  • Deliver all services consistent with internal support services objectives and customer Service Level Agreements.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage difficult situations
  • Ability to adjust performance to meet changing circumstances such as reorganizations, reassignment of priority on projects, changes in strategic direction, and shifting customer needs

  • Knowledge of change management controls/processes, installation/removal of equipment

Experience Required

  • Bachelor Degree in related field, or equivalent experience
  • 8 years of recent data center management
  • Experience working with vendors
  • Proven track record of successful data center related project implementations
  • Must have previous related experience managing highly technical senior-level individual contributors and first level managers

Candidates with any of the following certification are desirable:

  • Certified Data Centre Professional - CDCP
  • Certified Data Centre Specialist - CDCS
  • Certified Data Centre Expert - CDCE
  • Certified Data Center Facilities Operations Manager - CDFOM
  • Certified IT Manager - CITM
