Job description

Based in the UK and reporting to the COO at Alshaya’s Head Office in Kuwait, the Managing Director – United Kingdom will be given the mandate to spearhead the expansion of this new region. The role will be fully accountable for the combined P&Ls of all the existing and future business divisions operating in the United Kingdom (Fashion & Footwear, Food etc.) in addition to all local function support departments (HR, IT, Property, Finance, Logistics etc).


 The role

  • To define the 3-5 year business plan for the UK region across all divisions
  • To spearhead the implementation of the regional business plan, in order to deliver results in terms of expansion & profit
  • To contribute to position all divisions as leading retail profit centers in the region
  • To set KPIs for the region’s top management (Business Director/Managers) with input from the corporate team
  • To be fully accountable for overall combined P&Ls of all brands in the region
  • To take ownership of the overall strategy and performance of the region per se
  • To lead strategy discussions and to manage quarterly & annual strategy performance reviews
  • To ensure consistency of product & service delivery; ensuring with the management that all brands, stores, staff and processes comply with Alshaya corporate standards
  • To identify business development opportunities to grow the region with brands, leveraging experience from the rest of the business
  • To be fully responsible for all supporting functions within the UK business

Desired Skills and Experience

The Requirements:

  • 20-25 years gained in retail environments, including minimum of 15-20 years in senior management positions
  • Proven track record within a very large Fashion / Clothing international chain is an advantage, along with some practice in other retail segments such as Food, Furnishings etc.
  • Proven track record of direct accountability of combined multi-retail businesses is a must
  • Strong experience gained in very large complex supply chain businesses
  • Strong understanding of the UK market and current trading conditions a must
  • Solid multi support functions expertise as an MD/CEO/COO, combining “hands-on” operational track record and strong strategic skills
  • Significant Business Development and Senior Operational experience gained in large, high profile retail chains is a must
  • Some proven track record of “turning around” retail businesses in the UK a definite plus
  • Multi-national / multi-cultural experience gained living overseas (preferred)
