Job description

I. PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Senior Mens Buyer is responsible for developing, executing and communicating the merchandise strategy that meets or exceeds financial plans. Will build and manage the company’s retail product assortment and execute Buying functions with the objective of maximizing sales and margin, and achieving the appropriate inventory turn. Will create product assortment plans for each store based on store size, location and fashion trends.

II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Full-Price Business (stores and website)
• In collaboration with the Director, develop seasonal product strategy, outlining categories to be expanded and categories that will be maintained or be contracted in order to optimize store sales and margin.
• Create seasonal assortment plans by category outlining width and depth of assortment by store volume group and/or specific store groups (e.g. warm weather stores). Review with Director and make agreed upon changes.
• Create and maintain a “sample library” that lists and groups the styles currently in the stores. This will serve as the tool for the entire team to determine replenishment parameters, reorders, adding new styles, styles that should be consolidated to top stores or moved to outlets. Maintain a style count by gender, outlining the current count and the number of styles delivering each month, along with an estimate of the number of styles expected to be moved to outlets each month.
• Drive the selection of product styles for each season in conjunction with the assortment planning process.
• Drive the business on a weekly basis by identifying reorders and also making adjustments to future commitments where possible. React to best sellers with a clear strategy of either reordering or ensuring a replacement style is bought deep enough (either already on order or an addition) to maximize sales of a trend.
• Work closely with allocation team to devise allocation strategy for each category.
• Work closely with planning and allocation team to in determining quantities - discuss reorder quantities as well as quantities for seasonal buys. This is a team effort that requires back and forth discussion and ownership from both buying and P&A.
• Work closely with the Design & Licensing team to understand the inspiration behind the product and to ensure the appropriate focus is put on the groupings they are most excited about. Provide feedback on best sellers and determine how we can maximize those looks with future seasons’ assortments.
• Work closely with the production and licensed vendors to ensure timely delivery of orders. Make adjustments to the assortment as necessary due to delays or cancellations
• Collaborate with allocation and visuals team to evaluate new store plans and assortments, adding or deleting styles that are needed to ensure the stores open with the best, most balanced and most seasonally appropriate merchandise.
• In collaboration with the Director, work with the Visuals team to strategize and plan window presentations and floor-sets.
• Work with the Store Operations team to provide delivery updates and product knowledge info. Issue this as a tool for all departments including P&A/E-commerce.
• In collaboration with the Director, drive meetings with Store Operations and Visuals teams at least twice in each season’s buying cycle – 1) to get feedback from the prior season (post-mortem), and 2) to present the assortment for the upcoming season in time to affect the buy in case something was missed.
• Support the Director of Retail Merchandising on all special projects and requests.

Outlets
• Plan and identify product that needs to be moved to the outlets on a monthly basis, considering the age of the product while ensuring that the remaining assortment in full-price stores is adequate to maximize sales and presentation. Obtain the Director’s approval on the list of items/groups being moved to the outlets.
• Review the monthly transfer selection for outlets and give input. In collaboration with the Director, the Outlet Team, and the field and Visuals partner.

Management
• Take lead role in senior management meetings (business review meetings, monthly OTB meetings, etc), presenting in-depth analysis of respective departments and classifications; must be able to sell and validate point of view.
• Identify key opportunities to maximize sales and drive the process to meet financial objectives.
• Responsible for overseeing the OTB, taking action as necessary; recommending changes to reorders, pricing strategies and markdowns.
• Maintain expert knowledge of the industry through store visits and competitive analysis.

IV. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Certifications
• Four year degree required

Experience and Skills
• Minimum of 7 years merchandising experience for an apparel specialty chain.
• Buying experience with a vertically integrated retailer. Experience working with an internal design and production team.
• Strong sense of fashion, experience in high-end apparel merchandising preferred
• Hands-on experience with assortment planning
• Strong presenter with the ability to lead
• Merchandise planning experience a plus
• Store management experience a plus
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office
• Advanced math and Excel skills, intermediate skills preferred
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent organizational and time management abilities
