Job description

Reporting to the CEO, the CTO will oversee a team of approximately 45 people located in their Richmond, VA location and will have direct responsibility for all of Snagajob’s technology initiatives. In this capacity s/he will actively manage and participate in all technical aspects of Snagajob’s development including: infrastructure management, site operations, product development, quality assurance and product deployment. He/she will also be responsible for team development and fostering a highly collaborative team environment. 


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage the product development process to ensure the development of reliable and scalable software on-time and on-budget as well as the technical operations team that runs the consumer-facing and business-facing web sites.
  • Lead a highly talented technology organization consisting of individuals who work together with a shared mission and goals, and collaborate with other departments in the achievement of company goals.
  • Partner closely with the Product organization in planning and implementing the product roadmap.
  • Lead with a style that is hands-on, detail-oriented and metrics-driven without micro-managing or being overbearing.
  • Support and continually improve an agile/scrum development process.
  • Show thought leadership for improving the overall system goals of stability, performance, and availability.
  • Ensure that all infrastructure and systems documentation is complete and up to date.
  • Support the implementation of a rigorous change management process for software and hardware changes.
  • Prepare formal communications documents such as outage reports, project plans, status updates and long-term planning documents.
  • Develop a product portfolio management approach to be used to assess product lifecycle initiatives and product success on an ongoing basis.
  • Be organized and forward-thinking to ensure a quick response to rapidly evolving business needs.
  • Actively manage vendors associated with production facilities.
  • Live the Snagajob core values, support America’s hourly workers and employers, and seamlessly integrate with and sustain the Snagajob environment and culture.
  • Lead in a manner that fosters high engagement, performance and commitment among all members of the technology team.





The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10- 15 years of technology leadership and software development experience, ideally with deep expertise in both SaaS and the consumer Internet sector. S/he must have proven experience in managing web-based technology infrastructures and product development with a thorough knowledge of software development methodologies, design and implementation. A reputation for driving and achieving execution excellence and delivering results will be crucial.


Other experiences that will be considered important are:

  • Prior record of success managing multiple parallel development work streams from concept to design and implementation and ongoing refinement.
  • Experience deploying architecture and systems at great scale with very high availability and low cost.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operating environment balancing business needs with a solid commitment to development excellence.
  • Knowledge of a diverse range of technologies and platforms.
  • Comfortable with multi-tasking, resolving competing priorities and meeting project deadlines.
