Job description

The Fraud/Risk Business Analyst acts as an internal risk & technical consultant for all businesses operated by Enova.  The responsibilities of the position include:

  1. Execute complex, in-depth analysis (using data mining and analytics tools) to optimize underwriting rules and models.  Must project business impact (such as ROI) and understand technical implications.
  2. Leverage technology-based tools to implement process improvements to current fraud monitoring and detection systems.
  3. Maintain and deliver daily and monthly reports to manager and key executives on health of the business from a risk perspective
  4. Explore new internal input and external data vendors for use in underwriting models.  May involve developing external business relationships.
  5. Collaborate closely with Technology & Operations groups on cross-functional projects to improve our underwriting and verification processes.

Examples of recent projects on the Fraud/Risk team:


  • Modify fraud reporting platform to improve detection algorithms and reduce human interaction
  • Execute data study and analysis to determine if data provided by an external vendor is able to improve our current underwriting models
  • Work with operations team to implement asampling methodology to validate underwriting process effectiveness on an ongoing basis
  • Work with technology team to develop new waysof using web-based data to detect fraud

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines:
  1. Applied mathematics or math theory
  2. Engineering
  3. Computer Science or similar technical discipline
  4. Physics or similar scientific field groundedin mathematics

  • For undergraduates, professional experience is not required.  Experienced hires and advanced degree candidates should have professional experience in one of the following fields:
  1. Consumer finance withanalytics focus
  2. Forensicinvestigations/fraud prevention
  3. Technology consulting
  4. Trading (must be atrader or modeler)
  5. Engineering
  6. Development/coding
  7. A field with similar technical/analytical rigor
  • Experience with at least one of the following: Python, VBA, Javascript, Ruby, SQL, C/C++, Perl
  • Strong user of MS Office applications (especially Excel)
  • Ability to derive actionable insights fromlarge, complex datasets
  • Exceptional independent problem-solvingskills
  • Comfortable working with technical conceptsand requirements
  • Ability to take initiative and independently drive projects to conclusion
  • Ability to prioritize
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to learn new processes, systems andconcepts faster than average.

Any additionaltechnical/quantitative certifications (Six Sigma, SAS, CFA, FRM, codingcertificates, etc.) are desired but NOT required
