Position Summary

The position supports revenue, membership growth and profitability for the Colorado Region through development and implementation of pricing strategies and methodologies, line of business reporting and analytics, and medical and administrative cost analytics, including contracting, utilization and benchmark analyses.  The position builds a high performing technical, analytic and consultative capability that functions at the highest level of partnership on strategic and financial issues by providing information that delivers insight and supports sound decision making for the organization.

Desired Skills and Experience

Basic Requirements

  1. BA or MA in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, or related field.
  2. Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) is required, Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) is preferred and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) is required.
  3. Minimum 15 years of well rounded healthcare actuarial experience, with experience in at least 15 of the following 25 areas: Small group rating and underwriting; Largegroup rating and underwriting; Individual rating and underwriting; Reserving; Forecasting; Medicare (especially Medicare Advantage bids); Medicaid; HMO products; POS products; Credibility analysis; Examining utilization experience by duration from enrollment for individual or smallgroup business; Adverse selection analysis; Provider fee schedules; Specific and aggregate stop loss – products, rating, etc.; Developing and using continuance tables; Detailed cost and utilization analysis by service type; Pricing benefit differentials; Mental health-rating and other issues; Report development and generation; and managed pharmacies and formularies.
  4. 7 +years of management experience, including 5 + at the executive level. Management of 10 or more employees, with oversight of multiple departments at once preferred.
  5. Ability to oversee multiple projects and teams at the same time. Time management and the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  6. Working collaboratively and the ability to partner well with both those within the department and other leaders within the organization.
  7. Working independently. Explaining actuarial concepts to non-actuarial people. Problem solving, and figuring out the best way to approach a problem (of an actuarial nature or otherwise). Developing training programs / presentations. Training others.
  8. Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to speak well in public; rapport / relationship building, and the ability to work well with external clients, brokers, and government entities (including insurance departments); Writing professional documents.
