Job description

The IT Customer Services Delivery team work proactively with internal & external customers to maximise HML’s investments in technology.

 

This Software Engineer role is within the IT Customer Services Delivery team supporting the development of software across multiple technologies (.net C#, SQL, BizTalk, Jade), integration and implementation of new software packages, development of regular software releases to enhance customer experience, investigation & resolution of system faults and delivery of enhancements & IT service requests.

Responsibilities

 

Software Development

  1. The specification and design of information systems, their components and architecture to meet defined business needs.  Undertakes the complete design of simple applications using simple templates and tools. Assists as part of a team on the design of components of larger systems. Produces detailed designs including, for example, physical data flows, file layouts, common routines and utilities, program specifications or prototypes and backup, recovery and restart procedures.
  2. The design, creation, testing and documenting of new and amended programs from supplied specifications in accordance with agreed standards.  Designs, codes, tests, corrects and documents moderately complex programs and program modifications from supplied specifications, using agreed standards and tools. Conducts reviews of supplied specifications, with others as appropriate.
  3. The specification, design and maintenance of structures for information storage and access to support business information needs.  Translates and implements simple development project requirements into physical database structures. Assesses proposed changes to object and data structures and implements these changes in physical databases. Assists in database management system support activities for operational database systems.

 

Other Duties as Assigned

  1. Takes on additional responsibilities as assigned by IT management.
  2. Represents IT with professionalism at IT & customer meetings, committees and events.

Desired Skills and Experience

Qualifications:

  • Specific qualifications at degree level are not necessary but may be advantageous
  • Industry / professional qualifications in a relevant subject such as Microsoft Developer certifications are not necessary but may be advantageous.

 

Technical Experience:

  • Background in commercial software application development, ideally using Microsoft technologies i.e. c#, .Net

 

Required Skills/Attributes:

  • Attention to detail.
  • Good problem solving skills.
  • Cooperative with and supportive of other team members.
  • Responds well to change and new challenges.
  • Good communication skills, ability to communicate at all levels

 

Desirable, but not essential experience:

  • Experience of developing SQL to manipulate large volumes of data.
  • Exposure to agile technical development principles and practices
  • Previous data migration experience desirable
  • Experience of working in a mortgage, financial services or consultancy organisation.
  • Experience of agile/lean development techniques, including Test Driven Development and Continuous Integration, and the use of tools such as NUnit, FitNesse and CruiseControl
