Job description

The Freight Broker will be responsible for coordinating daily operations within the Brokerage department. This position places emphasis on locating and remotely moving time-sensitive dry and refrigerated freight between destinations in the United States, Canada and Mexico.  As a logistics specialist, you will be responsible for coordinating daily load activity of your shipper base, negotiating rate agreements paid to the solicited carrier(s) and spot quoting all customer freight, tendering load information and volume shipments and managing both carrier and driver services to achieve the desired results for our customers.  The purpose of this role is to build and maintain a network of partner carriers in order to obtain the lowest cost and highest performance in the most efficient way possible.


In order to best direct and supervise freight in transit being hauled by outside carriers, the successful candidate must be able to multi-task in a fast paced environment with rapidly changing priorities, be self-motivated and possess a positive attitude, especially when resolving customer service issues (i.e. freight discrepancies, deadheads, etc.). The importance of communicating with shippers, carriers and dispatchers to manage pick-up and delivery schedules also requires that the Broker be aggressive, exhibit strong negotiating skills with documented success and have working industry knowledge of freight capacity, bid processes, lane coverage, etc. Providing superior customer service is a top priority at Stevens Transport and the working relationships with transportation providers that you develop will drive your success.




This position is located in Dallas, Texas.


Note: This is not a warehouse position.





Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in a related field and/or 2-4 years of driver management/dispatch experience.  Some knowledge of logistics/transportation/intermodal system(s) and specific experience in a project management role is required.
  • Ability to evaluate alternatives in order to make best overall decisions based on KPI performance standards, service requirements, freight needs, economical factors, customer relations and driver needs while performing in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with and listen to people of diverse opinions and backgrounds in an effective and concise manner.
  • Must possess strong analytical troubleshooting and problem resolution/solving skils, as well as the ability to prioritize projects and process multiple tasks as required.
  • Knowledge base of FHWA guidelines pertinent to DOT/FMCSA rules and regulations.
  • Strong negotiating skills and sales ability.
  • Familiarity with AS/400 operating system.
  • Absolute commitment to following through with customers.
  • Strong analytical competencies.
  • Must be able to handle 100+ inbound and outbound calls daily.
