Job description

The successful candidate will be working for a new and highly motivated management team, whose drive for change and success is increasing in momentum. The environment at UEFA is highly unique with its focus on the business of football, and we therefore welcome candidates with a sports industry background or who have experience in a similarly-paced, events based organisation.  More important, however, is the candidate’s previous solution management experience in an in-house IT or ICT service delivery environment.


Due to the high level of change planned for the department at this time, the role is not suitable for candidates who are accustomed to simply maintaining situations.  The successful candidate will demonstrate considerable, successful experience of operating as an agent of change. 


The role reports to the Solution Design Manager and has Architect team lead responsibility for the architects in the team.


The role is based in Nyon, Switzerland, and there may be some travel required.


The Technical Architects work very closely with Solution Managers to create a new Solution Design team. The Solution Design team will be a tightly-focused team, ensuring the external market perspective of current and available products and solutions is considered in tandem with the current and future needs of our business stakeholders. A significant majority of the department’s budget is allocated to third parties.


Key duties include:

  • work in a  team environment
  • exploiting the technical resources available in house and from third parties
  • exploring options for improving or changing existing solutions
  • designing solutions that meet business needs, exceed customer expectations and add real value to the organisation
  • facilitate effective and efficient team work to design and develop business-oriented solutions
  • support the build the technical architecture team, understanding the different roles required, and recruiting accordingly
  • define the right balance between infrastructure, information, security and software architecture
  • improve level of in-house knowledge and documentation and to design appropriate solutions
  • ultimately responsible for technical knowledge held in house and documentation of solutions from business and technical perspective
  • safe-guard the overall Information Systems via the definition and implementation of sustainable processes and guidelines that will help the interaction with the different stakeholders
  • review existing datamodels, frameworks and IS policies, support inprovement and innovation.


Close liaison with the Solution managers to ensure a thorough and shared understanding of the business needs driving technical solutions. Responsible to lead the ICT Architecure team to develop, maintain and govern UEFA’s Information System Architecture across all layers ranging from the Application Architecture to the underlying Infrastructure and Networking.  


UEFA’s Information System requires constant and careful assessment, capacity planning and business continuity building which this position will help build and sustain. In addition the position requires to understand ICT securtiy standards as well as industry guidelines when it comes to data security and quality.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Seven to 10 years of experience in at least two IT disciplines (such as technical architecture, network management, application development, middleware, information analysis, database management or operations) in a multitier environment — or five years of experience in business analysis or business strategic planning.
  • Minimum 3 years professional experience in equivalent position
  • Worked in an environment where most of the technical activities are outsourced to external companies
  • Worked in an international environment
  • Technical background, used to project management, comfortable in writing document   
  • Expertise in infrastructure & Application Solutions
  • Experience in SAP environment
  • Experience in Microsoft environment (SQL, MOSS, .Net, …)
  • Experience in Digital Media Solutions (mobile, internet, streaming, broadcast,…)
  • Experience in large outsourced infrastructures (600+ boxes)
  • Experience in Networking (WAN, LAN, …)
