FOR THIS POSITION, WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN-DEPTH WIRELESS KNOWLEDGE.  THERE IS ABOUT 60% TRAVEL WITH HEAVY TRAVEL EVERY FALL.

 

At Gartner, a Senior Network Engineer provides in-depth knowledge and technical expertise in troubleshooting, design, installation, maintenance and support of a large, highly-complex corporate network infrastructure.  You will be responsible for troubleshooting at the expert level across all corporate Networks, including all LAN / WAN QoS and VOIP environments and are often the focal point around which troubleshooting revolves, guiding a cross-platform team to a resolution.  At Gartner, our team of Network Engineers have a unique opportunity for significant global travel, supporting our Events organization in our annual slate of over 60 conferences throughout the US, EMEA, Latin America and Asia/Pacific, including our flagship conference Symposium/ITxpo.  If you are an experienced network engineer interested in global travel, this is a great opportunity!  

 

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Global Networks and Telecom, you will assist in the design and implementation of new network initiatives. You will collaborate with other technical teams within our Strategic Technology Group to develop creative technical solutions for our diverse business areas.  In addition you will participate in the whole Request for Proposal process; identify potential vendors, review responses, select winners, and participate in the technical negotiation process for contracts and services.   

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Design, implementation and troubleshooting of 802.11a/b/g/n technology & wireless guest access solutions
  • Perform wireless site surveys and network assessments with various wireless engineering tools such as AirMagnet and Cognio
  • Expertly communicate technology issues, plans and solutions from both a business and technical perspective
  • Manage infrastructure-related projects and daily operations including hardware and software deployment and upgrades
  • Coordinate the management of multiple open issues and interface with vendors, other internal functional areas, and/or end users at all levels
  • Function as a consultant on a daily and 24 hour-on-call basis in solving network and data communications related problems

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Current CCNA and CCNP Certification preferred, or significant (8+ years) of relevant experience
  • Extensive knowledge of the Cisco controller based (4400, 5500) wireless infrastructure
  • Extensive knowledge of the Cisco platforms with emphasis of routers (ISR & ASR platforms), switches (3500, 3700, 4500,4900, 6500), Nexus Data Center Platforms, Unified Communications, VPN/Firewalls(ASA5500)
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in setting up and maintaining QoS in a large corporate environment spanning several networks
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in performance tuning of routing and switching supporting a large complex BGP, MPLS and EIGRP environment
  • Knowledge and experience in the setup and configuration of F5 Load Balancers
  • Knowledge of DNS architecture, design, implementation and maintenance
  • Must be able to lift approximately 50 lbs as equipment movement may be necessary
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Ability to travel globally and night/weekend availability for network activity as necessary
