Under-W[h]at[ev]er AFM & Other Studies of the World Tiniest Building Blocks
Utica, New York Area
My expertise is focused on Polymer and (Bio)Macromolecular Chemistry & Physics & Surface Analysis with emphasis on Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) under various liquid media and air. In 1999, I received quite rare "Certificate of the Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) Course" from Universität Ulm (Germany). My recent activities & achievements include (complete list is in CV on "My Website"):
• AFM study of single molecules under liquid media in terms of both fundamental research financed by NATO through NSF & applied Fuel Cell Activities under General Motors (GM) contract; (for the first time in the world visualized thin (0.4 nm) molecules under liquids in subtle details (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-molecule_experiment, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polymer);
•• determination of pore formation in lipid bilayer around 1.2-22 nm nanoparticles and quantum dots (Corning Inc.) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipid_bilayer);
••• study of thin (hybrid) polymer brushes/films using an SPM (AFM & SFM) (NSF & U.S. Army Research Office grants).
I am ready to master any new research technique, and those already been used include: (1) SPM; (2) Ellipsometries; (3) H & C13 NMR, FTIRs and UV; (4) SEM, TEM, other Microscopies; (5) HPLC; (6) DLS; (7) Zeta-Potential (including flat surfaces); (8) Various Contact Angles; (9) Polymer blending; (10) Polymerization, grafting.
Additionally, I can and do:
• develop my own software (C++), web-sites (JavaScript, Flash, CSS), and scientific CG 3D movies (3ds Max);
•• work with or master readily any software including equipment-oriented, common-used (e.g. Corel, Office), special (e.g. Vegas, Sandra), and scientific ones (e.g. Origin, HyperChem, Maple), and touch-type in English, Ukrainian & Russian.
I am open for your questions & communication!
