My current research interest is in characterizing global molecular and physiological events of microbial systems via systems biological approach. I'm a member of Dr. Mark R. Marten's Group, where our system of choice is Aspergillus nidulans and other relevant and beneficial filamentous fungi. Our main tool of analysis is comparative PROTEOMICS via two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DE) and mass spectrometric (MS) identification of proteins of interest, through which we not only acquire a panoptic snapshot of functional-level changes in the cells, but also assign probable functions to novel and/or hypothetical proteins. The biological question we are currently addressing is how fungi adapt to stressful conditions, including conditions of elevated salt concentration, carbon-starvation, and the presence of antibiotics.
