Yaron Samid has designed products and built companies that have empowered millions of people to create, consume, distribute and monetize digital media. His latest company, Pando Networks (www.pandonetworks.com), develops and markets the Internet's leading managed P2P content delivery service. With over 18 million users and major media customers, Pando is changing the way video is delivered online.
Yaron found his calling as an Internet entrepreneur after being fired from his first "real" job at a big-three PR firm for being "too creative". In early 1995 Yaron was a founding employee and one-man marketing department at then startup Register.com (NASDAQ: RCOM). His passion for new-media lead him next to “push technology” pioneer BackWeb (NASDAQ: BWEB). As director of product management, Yaron designed and launched the most widely used push-based media distribution applications in history, with over 50 million installations.
Yaron later served as VP Marketing for Zend Technologies before co-founding DeskSite to manifest his vision of the Internet's first video-ad supported PCTV Network in early 2002. Yaron grew the network to over 2 million viewers in just its first year. Experiencing firsthand the inherent cost and scale limitations of server-based video delivery at DeskSite, Yaron started Pando Networks in March of 2004 out of his NYC apartment. As Pando's CMO he was responsible for the company's overall product and market strategy and guided its award winning user experience design.
Yaron is an active hi-tech community leader, organizing two industry events in New York -- NY Video 2.0 (www.nyvideo.org), a 1,800 member monthly meetup of online video startups and media companies, and NY Israel Tech (www.nyisrael.org); a peer group of 500 Israeli hi-tech entrepreneurs and professionals living in NYC. Yaron serves on the Board of Directors of Aprigo, is an advisor to several startups and an executive committee member at Tevel.org.
