This is my personal blog. Though other issues are discussed, this blog is devoted primarily to promoting a positive attitude in all my readers. If everyone stays positive, our problems will dissolve peacefully.

With a B.S. and M.B.A. in banking and finance I spent a number of years in Commercial Banking and Manufacturing. Executive positions were in Human Resources, Finance, and Information Systems. My permanent short term goal is to help people realize they can control their own destiny.
(Real Estate industry)
1991 — 1995 (4 years)
Self-employed as realtor in a firm with other salespeople. Listed, advertised, and sold real estate to customers from many states. My specialties were waterfront locations and bed and breakfast businesses all over the Eastern half of North Carolina.
This business taught me the value of maintaining a positive attitude in spite of adversity.
(Textiles industry)
1968 — 1991 (23 years)
Responsible for daily accounting functions, payroll, seasonal financial projections, annual temporary financing to support production up to $3,000,000.
In charge of Human Relations including developing personnel policies, writing Employee Policy Manual, and establishing procedures to reduce unemployment compensation expenses by thousands of dollars each year.
Responsible for daily operations of administrative office.
Installed the company’s first computer system to manage orders, invoices, and payroll. I chose the system, supervised programming, trained operators, and maintained daily operations.
(Wholesale industry)
1970 — 1980 (10 years)
Sideline business 1970 to 1980.
This business was built around a unique nylon-based paint which really worked to prevent blistering resulting from moisture infiltration. It was my opportunity to get in on the ground floor of an opportunity. My supplier went bankrupt quickly because they grossly underestimated production costs; the product was way ahead of its time and was difficult for users to accept.
Moral of this is it may not be the best idea to get in at the very beginning of a new idea.
(Wholesale industry)
1970 — 1980 (10 years)
Sideline business 1970 to 1980
Business consisted of selling locations to many store locations and periodically restocking the racks. Management activities consisted of ordering and maintaining a new inventory of toys. Business was successful but required more time than I had.
Lesson learned was there is only so much time available to one person. You must organize and manage a staff to help in any business. If you fail to do this, you will have to quit the business.
(Banking industry)
1960 — 1968 (8 years)
Involved in all aspects of estate management and settlement, estate income tax preparation, estate planning counseling, investment management, and real estate management.
Received many initially annoying and abusive calls from those left behind, usually a widow. Eventually I realized most of these calls were emotional and the result of being lonely. I began to enjoy them and tried to empathize and understand their problems rather than taking their comments as personal criticism of me.
MBA, Finance, 1966 — 1970
BS Business Administration, Banking and Finance, 1958 — 1960
