Chun Wong's Summary
My interests are primarily in the study of emergent patterns and behaviors of large complex systems. This interest is mainly focused on the unique interactions and resulting behavior of interacting components, such as human systems like local, national and transnational groups, sovereign nations, military alliances, etc and creating novel analytics to use as metrics for these interactions. The time-dependent topological change of these systems is of particular interest as is using advanced tools such as late breaking techniques and algorithms to categorize and model these changes and behaviors. A particular interest is using biomimetics to derive nature’s techniques to solve and model technical problems. These include using evolutionary algorithms and spiking neural networks to solve engineering problems. My goal is to secure a career position, beginning after 20 May 2012, with responsibilities and duties which correlate to the aforementioned interests.
Specialties
modeling complex systems

Undergraduate Research Assistant
Binghamton University
Educational Institution; 501-1000 employees; Higher Education industry
February 2011 – July 2011 (6 months) Vestal, New York
Research member in a five-member team from bioengineering, marketing, computer science, and GIS departments. Studying market diffusion of a product (broadband internet service) using geographic distance measures. Attempting to improve current models of market diffusion previously defined in Bass’s paper and subsequent improvements by others. Using evolutionary algorithms to fit data to proposed equations.

Chun Wong's Skills & Expertise
Chun Wong's Education
State University of New York at Binghamton
B.S., Bioengineering
2008 – 2012 (expected)
In the Bioengineering Major at Binghamton University we focused on learning about complex systems. These systems consist of many heterogeneous, interacting components that work together to exhibit emergent behavior.
What is this? What is intelligence to a bunch of interacting neurons? What is the cardiac cycle to a bunch of interacting cardiac cells? What is society to a bunch of interacting individuals? What is a school of fish to a bunch of interacting fish? What is the ecosystem to a bunch of interacting species? What is world government to a bunch of interacting sovereign national governments? What is 'the whole is greater than the sum of its parts'?
We learn to model, examine, test and perturb these systems to discover novel behavior. We attempt to minimally interact with these systems to affect huge change.
Activities and Societies: Complex systems engineering, undergraduate research with the Bioengineering Department, participated in US Army ROTC for 2 semesters
Brooklyn Technical High School
New York State Advanced Regents Diploma, Computer Science
2004 – 2008
Activities and Societies: Computer Science Concentration, Graduated on Honor Roll with 3.8 GPA, Bronze Medal of Computer Science, 1st Place 4th Annual St. Joseph's College Programming Competition, President at BTHS Software Development Group, BTHSnews.org
