Network Support Specialist
Augusta, Georgia Area
I graduated from Georgia Southern University in May with a degree in information technology and a specialization in network administration. While in school, I took part in many group projects, ranging from system/database design and implementation to setting up secure servers and attacking them, exploiting security vulnerabilities to gain access or deny service to the users. Moreover, focus was placed on virtualizing servers to cut the cost of overhead and maintenance.
I have spent most summers, when not taking classes, working with an engineering firm in Augusta. I designed a database and archival system for drawings to make the entire process more streamlined. Additionally, I have maintained their website for over 6 years. When they opened a second location in Macon, Georgia, I set up a file-sharing server, copper-based network, network attached storage, plotters and printers. The server was configured to run backup scripts nightly and I was able to manage the server remotely.
More on the IT side of things, I worked as a network support specialist intern for the Medical College of Georgia last summer. During my stay, I helped set up routers, managed switches, and network access control appliances on a very large fiber and copper-based network. Part of my duties were to troubleshoot connections, block infected machines, interact with end users and assist them with any issues they had. I supported Windows, Macintosh and Linux environments.
