Director of Engagement Strategy at 1000heads
Twickenham, United Kingdom
James Whatley is the Director of Engagement Strategy at 1000heads, avid blogger & a regular contributor to the leading mobile news site, TheReallyMobileProject.
During his time at SpinVox, James was been involved in numerous projects including; ‘The Future of Voice’, ‘Stand By What You Say’, ‘Big Talk’ and the 'SpinVox Wishing Well'.
Prior to joining SpinVox he was Customer Champion at Mippin, (formerly Refresh Mobile), and was a major contributor to defining and refining the user experience for mobile consumers.
James also helped to secure the prestigious ‘Nokia Pro Developer of the Year’ award for Refresh in 2006. More recently, James helped develop the concept for the ‘Social Networks through SpinVox’ service, which was a finalist at the 2007 Media Guardian Awards.
Passionate for all things ‘Social’ (tools, media, networks and objects), James is a frequent speaker at Social Media conferences and events. A recent example of this was ‘Media Camp London’, where he led a discussion around Social Media and how it applies to big brands & companies, as well as to his vision for SpinVox.
Creating the Mobile Geeks of London two years ago, a networking group that started in the UK and has since gone global, James created an opportunity for industry and non-industry mobile fans to come together and share their ideas. Thanks to this, he himself is now currently a key strategic advisor to Dabr, a third party mobile web interface to Twitter.
In 2008 he was one of the leading contributors to The Mobile Industry Review show and site, which at its peak, reached 250,000 viewers within the first year of launch.
James is a regular guest on a number of podcasts and was invited onto Radio 4’s ‘Today Programme’ to talk about ‘The Business of Blogging’ early last year. James’ work centres around user experience, technology, and how on-and offline social structures mesh with technologies of engagement.

The Mobile Geeks of London is exactly what it says on the tin.
It’s not about business development, nor is it, to an extent, just another networking event.
It’s about genuine Mobile Geeks coming together and sharing an evening over beers, talking about the thing they love to geek over most, mobile!
Industry and non-industry folk, mixing it up it up and sharing ideas.
With over 500 members of the facebook group and a history of events stretching across the pond and back, the MGoL is a worldwide meetup group that just seems to keep growing and growing.
Just the facebook group to find out when the next one will be.
