I am an author, activist and developer. I co-wrote “Universal Design for Web Applications” with Matt May (O’Reilly, 2008). Before that, I co-edited Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 and 2.0–the basis of most web accessibility policies. My work has taken me around the globe as I connect with managers, purchasers, advocates, designers, developers, and anyone else interested in making the web accessible to everyone. I recently appeared dressed as Wonder Woman in a web comic and as myself in interviews on Minnesota Public Radio and Puget Sound Public Radio.
Universal design helps you create products that will work for a larger number of potential customers. Too often, people shy away from making their products accessible because they don't know how or they are afraid if they do it wrong they will upset someone. Some folks aren't aware of the benefits of universal design.
I am here to make accessibility accessible, innovative, interesting, and fun.

I work on the AccessComputing project whose goal is to increase the number of students with disabilities who are pursuing computing-related degrees and careers. I help with the development of WebAnywhere--a screen reader that runs within any browser on any machine without the need to install specialized software.
