Managed a large group of senior-aged volunteers who were matched one-on-one in the community as companions to seniors. Also organized volunteer trips to nursing and assisted living facilities to provide companionship visits and small gifts to residents. Coordinated a telephone reassurance program for daily phone calls to seniors living alone in the community. Organized programming and speakers for active seniors who come to the Center for education, activities, and exercise. Wrote newsletter pages, press releases, public service announcements, and grant renewals. Interviewed with local radio stations frequently.

Provided social work and case management services to persons with chronic mental illness in Cerro Gordo County. Worked closely with an interdisciplinary across-agency team to insure continuity of care. After two years was promoted to administrator of County Care Facility, a residential and intermediate facility for chronically mentally ill persons transitioning back into the community from more acute-level settings.

Helped start the NE Iowa chapter of the Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
