(Non-Profit Organization Management industry)
August 2008 — Present (1 year 4 months)
I’m working as a Board member and Director of Homeowners of Texas (http://www.homeownersoftexas.org), helping this non-profit through its early stages with strategy, political lobbying, marketing communications, IT support, and website design. Please check us out, let us know of homeowners struggling with construction defects, and get personally involved if you can. Our vision includes working with the various stakeholders to develop regulatory reforms that protect homeowners while improving the homebuilding industry. Others who will benefit include the construction trades, realtors, insurance and warranty companies, and the neighborhoods and communities that benefit from improved property values and the resulting tax base.
(Public Company; 10,001 or more employees; DELL; Computer Hardware industry)
July 2006 — February 2008 (1 year 8 months)
I established consistency across all media worldwide, working with teams in Engineering, MARCOM, PR & Analyst Relations, Sales, Legal, Delll.com, photo labs, and outside agencies. My messages were simple, compelling, relevant and differentiated and, most importantly, resonated in the market to motivate sales teams, captivate customers, contribute to Editor’s Choice awards, and enable sales.
I helped launch Dell's first AMD PCs, Inspiron notebook & desktop portfolios, high-end XPS gaming systems, all-in-one systems, a multimedia “studio,” home networking products, and Windows Vista. My technical papers, demos and enhancements to online learning centers helped reinforce product messaging, and my influence extended to other business units, including graphics, displays, sound options, Blueray Disc, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and services.
I’m credited with naming the XPS One, producing Dell’s “best ever” Reviewer’s Guides, and establishing a global repository of messaging collateral.
(Sole Proprietorship; 1-10 employees; Management Consulting industry)

Appointed to FCC Consumer Advisory Committee, where I influenced public policy through three working groups: (1) Advanced Technology, (2) Homeland Security, and (3) Rural & Underserved Populations.
Successfully lobbied the Texas legislature and protected the rights of communities to install municipal networks, working with a handful of volunteer consumer advocates to defeat 168 paid lobbyists.

As subject matter expert on home networks and gateways, developed segment business plan for IBM's $1.5 Billion semiconductor division, facilitated a broader plan for network appliances, and influenced IBM corporate decisions to enter (or avoid) several emerging markets.
As marketing chairman of HomeRF Working Group, differentiated HomeRF from wireless LANs by managing worldwide brand, marketing programs, collateral development, media relations, speaking opportunities, trade show events, and internal meetings across 100 member companies.
Spearheaded the 1st COMDEX Home Networking pavilion, which became an annual COMDEX & CES “Hot Spot.”
(Public Company; 10,001 or more employees; IBM; Computer Software industry)
October 1993 — April 1997 (3 years 7 months)
Developed innovative strategies and plans to sell OS/2 operating system into homes, to game developers, and to corporate telecommuters leading to OS/2 Warp reaching the #1 position on StoreBoard's retail sales charts.
While in this role, I created a new Try-n-Buy CD-ROM sales channel that other IBM Divisions adopted, I introduced IBM to the emerging Digital Home market, and I evangelized and helped pioneer the emerging Residential Gateway market through white papers, keynote presentations, standards participation, prototype development, and marketing plans.
(Public Company; 10,001 or more employees; IBM; Computer Hardware industry)
July 1984 — September 1993 (9 years 3 months)
Directed PC marketing (PS/2, OS/2 & software) across a 10-states with expert advice and support, resulting in recognition for “best-of-breed” programs and Area PC sales ranking #2 in the nation.
Saved $2.5 million a year, improved field communications and customer satisfaction, and increased sales by developing an online information repository that blended email, newsletters and centralized storage. It was named an “IBM Best Practice” and prompted two large cash awards.
Invented a tool to more easily develop and distribute presentations and proposals to print locally in typeset quality, saving IBM over $1 million annually and earning another large cash award.
