The learning technologist role has three main functions:
a) Systems Management
b) Consultancy
c) Staff Development
Systems management involves piloting and evaluating technologies and managing their use across the University. Consultancy work involves promoting technologies, providing strategic advice regarding e-learning, and working closely with different teaching teams on pedagogic issues. Staff development work entails development and delivery of workshops and online guides. Across all areas of work the learning technologist acts as an intermediary between the academic faculties and technical services.
My current academic interests focus upon the teaching and learning applications of social software and how e-portfolios can be developed as educational and professional development tools. With a degree in the Social Sciences, I am also interested in the nature of identity in the digital world.
